There are obviously many themes that present themselves as we begin the journey into Holy Week, but there might still be opportunity to reflect on the world of work. The story takes place against the backdrop of the Passover Festival, and there are several references to making ready. This might cause us to pray for people who are involved in the planning and arranging of civic events and festivals. This might include those who provide utilities, services and logistics for such events such as stewards, staging and lighting providers, stadium and arena management companies etc.

The Gospel narrative is also laced with the presence of Judas and his impending betrayal. Judas’s actions remind us of the seductive power of money, wealth and personal gain. Concerns are often raised about the profit motives of the business sector, so there is an obvious opportunity to reflect and pray on issues of business ethics - this needs to be done with sensitivity, so as not to equate every business executive with “Judas”.
